The E46 M3 CSL was a masterpiece we regard as a classic, yet it was also a call to the future of BMW M.
Beyond the material science and its application to BMW M street cars - the design language also evolved.
The CSL introduced roundedness in its shapes to break away from its traditional design language.
I find the integrated ducktail'ed trunk embodies this change the most.
In this Special Series, I document the entire CSL'ification of The Phoenix, including the CSL trunk transformation.

It's lighter than the original CSL trunk.
The Karbonius design sheds 6kg over the OEM CSL trunk. This is made possible by pre-preg carbon instead of sheet moulding compound (SMC) BMW M used.
OE+ design.
Karbonius replicated the BMW M exterior design of the trunk. The interior was updated with a sleeker inner shell and embossed area to fit an M logo.
Accessory cut-outs
The badge, lights, locks sections are pre-cut to slightly tighter tolerances than OEM for accessories. This will give leeway to your body shop to adjust.
Finish options.
The exterior shell is available in primer or cleat coat exterior finish. The interior is available in Gloss or Matt.

The trunk is compatible with all Genuine CSL components.
Spec your CSL trunk
Professional installation is required
At minimum, you will need professional paint services. I highly recommend you let a body shop fully fit the trunk.
It will most likely requires slight triming to the license plate lights, lock and rubber stopper fitting holes.
You will need to drill holes if you intend to fit the CSL trunk liner as well.
