Are Carbon Fiber Plenums worth it?

Short answer: yes.

The S65 is a masterpiece: it is the heart, soul, and backbone of the E92 M3 - without, it may as well be another 335i with a few bits and bobs. 

Yet, Germans subdued the experience with sound deadening as it aimed at building a GT car first. As 15 years are now gone, we value the E92 M3 for its rawness hidden right below its coat. 

You control the madness with your right feet. Unlike an exhaust system: a Carbon Fiber Plenum has no drone, no booming. If you thought downshifts sounded good, you haven't heard anything yet.

The OG Connex: CarboProject GmbH

With the recent release of numerous carbon fiber plenum options, I had been recently looking at carbon fiber plenum options for my E92 M3 and dove deep into European M3 forums in UK, France & Germany. I was surprised to see they had actually been around for a while in one form or another.

I reached out to René at CarboProject - a high end carbon fiber manufacturer in Germany. He has been making custom carbon fiber plenums for the E9X M3 since it came out in 2007.

Continued Product Development

The CarboProject Carbon Airbox is developed with the OEM plastic ITB fittings with an enlarged upper pre-preg carbon lid for the enhanced sound we're all looking for.

I love the box due to its amazing sound, various options, its OE fitment and reliability, along with the more Motorsport look of the lid versus current options.

His carbon fiber plenum had initially been developed in 2007. As the community started adopting the product en masse, we provided feedback - and he listened.

The community feedback has helped improve the product with no-cost options such as Matte Clear Coat, Flat Top finish and the infamous Export version with the thinner, pre-preg, carbon fiber lid for improved induction noise. EuroConnex exclusively offers the Export version to members worldwide. 

René has continued to develop the air intake by offering the air box lid in complete carbon construction. The airbox lid is now available as well here. 

CarboProject's Forged Carbon Fiber Plenum for the S65 V8

René has been mastering the application of Forged Carbon, a technique developed by Lamborghini. Forged Carbon gives a unique look to the plenum. It is otherwise built to the same specifications as the standard pre-preg carbon plenum available here.
