BMW once (or twice) recalled bearings - AH!

First it was the oil pump, then the bearings. Atleast they cared back then!

As part of my Special Series on bulletproofing the S54, this entry touches on the recall's history and bolt nuances.

We button up the S54's bulletproofing by replacing the rod bearings with the ACL bearings.

Bolts recommendations

I recommend that you use the Genuine BMW bolts.

The early generation S54s manufactured up to 12/13/2002 had M11x1.25mm rod bolts (SKU: 11247834310). They are distinguished by the bolt head.

The updated M10x1.25mm rod bolts (SKU: 11247834310) need to be replaced as they are stretch to yield.
