Re-creation of the BMW Performance seats.
the intentions
We are re-creating a signature classic, the right way.
In 2008, BMW partnered with Recaro to make one of their best seat ever: the BMW Performance seat for the E8x and E9x chassis.
Based off the Sporster CS, it had plug and play airbags, heated elements and distinguished aesthetics to a standard Recaro seat.
A decade later, they discontinued it.
In 2023, I purchased an original BMW Performance seat. It was dissected to fully understand the nuances to recreating this classic.
In this Series, I document the re-creation of the blueprints to the BMW Performance seats.

Spec your Bespoke BMW Performance style CS
The process to a perfect re-creation.
Foam Design.
The signature ribbed aesthetics of the original seats were achieved with a completely different upper foam section.
Some areas were filled, new cuts were made and ribs have increased height over the original Sportster CS foam.
Using proven techniques, we re-create BMW's foam design down to the finest detail.
Materials.
Recaro used higher quality materials to create the BMW Performance seats.
They notably made use of Genuine Alcantara over their commonly used Dinamica, along with higher quality leather materials and a proper embroidery.
We source matching materials.
Stitching.
Recaro subtly used different stitching techniques and threads to improve the quality and aesthetics of the BMW Performance seat.
We re-recreate every single characteristics of these techniques.
Painted Harness Covers.
The original harness covers were painted in a unique matte grey. No color codes exist.
We matched the color, and have improved upon the original tone.

Every single stitches, the unique foam, the custom paint and embroidery along with the electronics integrated into the OEM seats were dissected.
