Long tube design.

The V3 saw revisions that created a slightly unequal length design for easier installation.

F1 style collectors

The collectors were updated with inserts for bolts for a reliable seal.

TIG welded 304 stainless steel

They are TIG welded and made from 304 Stainless Steel.

Fits with OE sensors

Bungs for pre-cat, post-cat and temperature sensors were cut, fitted and welded to the headers.

    • Deletes primary catalytic converters
    • Revised merge collector with bolts to secure to primaries.

Installation Notes

I highly recommend you take off the front subframe to install the headers for easier access. It is not required, but will make your life easier. While in there, new header gaskets are recommended.

The zenith of BMW M NA engines was still restricted.

The S85 exhaust system development was heavily influence by the BMW Motorsport F1 program.

The S85 marked the first development of equal length headers to a BMW M engine in a V configuration, a vast departure from the log style manifold on the S62 in the E39 M5.

Yet, BMW M still compromised and created an opportunity to uncork significant power gains.

In this Series, I document the development, unboxing and installation of the S85 V3 headers.
