The cap is designed to eliminate leaks when the power steering system is under high load and temperatures.

Fits all M cars*
The reservoir uses the angled fittings as on the E9x M3. It will fit other M cars, I have fitted it to my E46 M3 as well.

Naturally aspirated M engines generate massive heat. They love to spill PS fluid all over their reservoirs when driven at sustained high RPMs.
It may lead to pump failure - it did on my V10, and my E46 M3's reservoir has been leaking forever.
