CSL Carbon Trunk
by Karbonius Composites

The E46 M3 CSL was a masterpiece we regard as a classic, yet it was also a call to the future of BMW M.

Beyond the material science and its application to BMW M street cars - the design language also evolved.

The CSL introduced roundedness in its shapes unlike most BMW designs: I find the integrated ducktail'ed trunk embodies this change the most.

Many replicas came and went for these trunks. This is the Karbonius Composites version.

Enjoy,

Same exterior, revised interior.

OEM+ design

The Karbonius CSL Carbon Fiber Trunk was designed by using the OEM CSL Trunk (41-00-7-895-884) to build the negative mold.

The interior has been slightly updated with design touches to make the interior more appealing.

The Specs

Pre-preg & Autoclave'd Carbon

The CSL trunk is made from multi carbon pieces that are bonded together to create the trunk. Each component is made from pre-preg & autoclaved large 4x4 weave carbon fiber.

Lighter than OEM

The Karbonius version barely weights 5.5kg over the 11.5kg of the OEM CSL trunk that was made from Sheet Moulding Compound (SMC) in Italy for BMW M.

Pre-cut fittings gaps

All necessary holes for the installation are pre-cut to slightly tighter tolerances than OEM for accessories: badge, lights, locks, etc. This will give leeway to your body shop to adjust.

Interior Aesthetics

If you do not run the CSL liner, the interior is mindfully finished and an embossed section was created to apply an M logo.

Optional wing reinforcements

Carbon layers are added to wing mounting points. It is only needed for motorsport applications and is not required if you don't plan on bolting a wing to the CSL trunk.

Finish Options

The interior is available in Gloss or Matt clear coate. The exterior shel is available in primer or cleat coat exterior finish. I opted for primer exterior & matte interior.
